Flat Top Hill Walks

An amazing place to visit and just a short 10 minute drive from our property.

The Flat Top Hill Conservation Area consists of 813 ha and is located behind Butchers Dam, built in the 1930s to provide household water to Alexandra and now used for irrigation.

Flat Top Hill supports a diverse range of animal and plant life, and is a perfect example of a dry land ecosystems - one of New Zealand’s most threatened ecosystems. The area also includes historical evidence of European and Chinese settlement during the Gold Rush.

There is a great variety of walks and mountain bike tracks to suit all levels - whether your prefer a short easy stroll or a more strenuous hike to the tops for outstanding views. This place also smells amazing, thanks to the abundance of wild thyme that grows there.
